John died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday 7th November 2025, aged 94, at his home in Little Warley. He was one of many local farmer's sons who were educated at Brentwood School during the years of the Second World War. In partnership with his father at Clapgate Farm, Little Warley and their milking herd's dairy products and Brett's milk were thought to be the best in Brentwood. In 1974 John ceased farming the land and created Brett Essex Golf Club that later became the Warley Park Golf Club, Magpie Lane. The club recently honoured John , on the 50th Anniversary as the creator and founder of the golf course that he continued to own.
John had been involved with Little Warley & Childerditch Village community life; as a trustee and chairman of the Little Warley Alms Houses and a life long member of the Village Natter Club. He came the annual Village Fete in September with his daughter, Isobel, and as always made others feel good.
John had been a very successful entrepreneur and a farmer who started life with real horse power. His first job each day before he went to school was the Brett Milk Round with his horse and cart. May John Rest in Peace. David Tee (1948-56)
