The 1557 Society has been established to recognise and thank, during their lifetime, Old Brentwoods and other friends of the School who have pledged a gift in their Will to Brentwood School Foundation.
By confirming to the Development Office that you have made a bequest, you will automatically become a member of the 1557 Society.
Members receive a specially designed gift bearing the 1557 Society logo, inspired by the marble plaque in School House dedicated to John Cooper Quennell OB, as well as invitations to special School and Foundation events.
A gift in your Will is one of the most meaningful ways to support future generations of Brentwood pupils. It can be a simple and tax-efficient way of making a significant contribution, often beyond what might be possible during your lifetime.
Legacies are usually given without restriction, enabling the Foundation to direct support to areas of greatest need, though we will always honour any particular wishes you may have.
Any gifts made to a registered charity such as Brentwood School, whether during your lifetime or in your Will, are exempt from Inheritance Tax. Further information can be found at www.gov.uk/inheritance-tax.
How to Leave a Legacy
Leaving a legacy can be done in a new Will, or by adding a simple Codicil to an existing one.
To make this process as accessible as possible, Brentwood School has partnered with adeus, a trusted Will writing service. Through this partnership, you can create or update your Will quickly, securely, with 100% of the cost being covered by the School.

We strongly recommend seeking independent legal advice when making or amending a Will, to ensure your wishes are properly recorded and your interests protected.
