As another action-packed term draws to a close, we reflect on the many achievements, milestones and celebrations that have shaped life at Brentwood School, from our first-ever mass participation fundraiser to outstanding triumphs in sport and music.
This year saw the launch of Race Across the Globe, the biggest mass participation fundraiser in Brentwood's history, with all proceeds going towards the Brentwood School Foundation. Over 1,500 pupils, parents, staff and Old Brentwoods took part in their own challenges, raising £19,000 towards transformational bursaries for deserving young people - a reminder how powerful the Brentwood community is when getting behind one shared cause.
A season of sporting success
The term was filled with sporting excellence, as students showcased their talent across a wide range of disciplines.
On Wednesday 2nd July, students took to the Heseltine Fields for Track and Field Day, a day of competition and record-breaking performances. William A (Year 8), representing Hampden, set an incredible pace by breaking two school records in the Year 8 Boys' 300m and Shotput. In the Year 10 Girls' Triple Jump, Maisie D (Merrymeade) briefly held a new school record before Aimee L (North) astonishingly broke it not once, but three times in quick succession! After a day of athleticism and house spirit, West emerged as overall winners, with Merrymeade in second place and Weald in third.
The senior boys A and B golf teams competed at the ISGA (Independent Schools’ Golf Association) national finals - we believe this is the first time that two teams from the same school have reached the national finals. Year 11 student Saxon M achieved a Bronze medal in the Junior final of 100m breaststroke at the British Swimming Championships and also clinched another bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke with a massive personal best, placing himself firmly among the top senior male swimmers in Great Britain.
During the 2024/25 academic year, the U15 Boys’ Football Team won the ISFA Trophy, the U13 Boys’ Football Team were ISFA finalists, and the U18 Girls’ Tennis Team were national finalists. All these successes are testament to the hard work and dedication of both students and teaching staff at Brentwood.
Musical and dramatic highlights
The day before breaking up for the summer holidays, students staged a performance of Grease: A Musical in a Day to raise funds for Breakthrough T1D, a charity supporting individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes. In just 24 hours, the cast worked tirelessly - rehearsing late into the night and returning to school at 6am - to bring the much-loved musical to life. All ticket sales from the event were donated to Breakthrough T1D, and those unable to attend were invited to contribute via JustGiving, which you can do so by clicking here.
The end of term was also tinged with sadness as we said farewell to the Upper Sixth stalwarts of the Music department. The Prom Concert was a fitting finale, showcasing the talent of our young musicians. It was a memorable evening in Courage Hall as they performed for the final time as Brentwood students. Between the choirs, bands and orchestras, the evening was a fitting send off to those who have given so much to the co-curricular life at the School.
A fond farewell to:
Emma B, Oscar M-D, Alistair C, Chloe L, Elsie P, Bessie T, Elisabeth D, Charlotte D, Annabelle O’L, Jacob B, Martha M, and Adrian S.
Their contributions to Brentwood’s music have been huge and we wish them all the best as they carry these memories into the next stage of their lives.
Farewell to the class of 2025
At the end of June, three special events marked the end of our Upper Sixth’s time at Brentwood. The 15 Year Celebration brought together 19 students and their families in the Water Garden to reflect on their journey from Prep to Sixth Form, with each student receiving a commemorative gift. In the gardens of Roden House, we honoured our Bursary Ambassadors, recognising their outstanding contributions in representing Brentwood and supporting our bursary programme. Finally, the Upper Sixth Leavers’ Reception on the BAC Lawn provided a farewell as students and their families celebrated their time at the School and looked ahead to the future.
As we bid farewell to our Upper Sixth and celebrate the successes of the past term, we look forward to the upcoming year and wish our students a restful summer break.
