Brentwood School has been shortlisted in two major categories for this year’s Tes Schools Awards. Following a record-breaking year for nominations, the school has been recognised for its leadership and its commitment to digital innovation.

Headmaster Michael Bond has been shortlisted in the Headteacher of the Year (Independent) category, while the school as a whole has been shortlisted for the Best Use of Technology award!

The Tes Schools Awards, often described as the "Oscars of education," celebrate the most inspiring teachers and schools across both the state and independent sectors in the UK. This year’s shortlisting is particularly significant given the unprecedented volume of entries from across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

The double nomination highlights Brentwood School’s dual focus on visionary leadership and the integration of modern learning tools.

Mr Bond’s Headteacher of the Year (Independent) nomination reflects the collective effort of the whole school community, highlighting the importance placed on fostering a positive culture, alongside a shared commitment to pupils, staff, and the wider community.

The Best Use of Technology category, supported by Amazon Web Services (AWS), recognises schools that are driving innovation. Brentwood’s shortlisting underscores its success in utilising technology to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.

Rod Williams, CEO of Tes, commented: “This year’s shortlist showcases the exceptional standard of entries across the Tes Schools Awards, reflecting the breadth of impact being delivered in UK education. Each category highlights schools and individuals who are not only driving meaningful change within their own settings, but also setting a benchmark for the wider sector. The Tes Schools Awards are designed to recognise and elevate this work, celebrating those making a measurable difference to pupils, staff and communities across the UK – and with a record number of nominations received this year, it clearly reinforces the strength and impact being delivered across the UK education sector.”

The finalists were selected by a panel of expert judges, including experienced school leaders and education specialists. The 2026 awards feature 23 categories, including new additions such as Teacher Development of the Year and Pupil Enrichment School of the Year.

The winners will be revealed during a glittering gala ceremony on 19th June 2026 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London. The event will be hosted by award-winning comedian and presenter Katherine Ryan.

Since 2009, the Tes Schools Awards have celebrated the achievements of school staff and institutions across the UK. It remains one of the most inclusive and prestigious awards programmes in the education sector, bringing together diverse settings from early years through to secondary education.
