Our Bursary Award Students

The Foundation is all about the amazing impact on our bursary award students. From the near immediate change it makes to their life, to the ongoing difference it makes in every personal or professional relationship they create beyond Brentwood School.

It is this exponential impact of great education and social mobility that makes bursaries so important. Hearing the stories of our bursary award students reminds us all why we work together to ensure talented children from modest backgrounds have a route to access our wonderful institution.

I received a bursary for my two years in the Sixth Form at Brentwood and I wouldn't have been able to attend without it. I am currently at the University of Exeter and I'm about to start a placement in France as part of my third year of the course. My experience at university has been shaped enormously by my time at Brentwood. Despite coming from a different background to most of my peers at Brentwood School, I never felt judged and I was able to develop a lot of good friendships, and I will treasure my experience at Brentwood forever."

"I just finished my second year of medical school and I’m excited to start my first placement year in September. Brentwood provided me with community, friendship and fellowship that I’m incredibly grateful for. It provided an environment where I could foster positive, lasting relationships with amazing individuals, where we can help support and edify each other on our respective career and academic journeys. I loved my time at Brentwood School and I am so grateful for the opportunity to have studied there and for the potential that was seen and nourished in me to help me flourish post Brentwood."

“I wouldn’t be the same without my time at Brentwood, and I am leaving as a person who is confident, kind, academic, determined and proud to consider themself an ‘Old Brentwood’. The bursary scheme has allowed me to fuel my passions, and enrich me. I am forever grateful for this opportunity, and I would encourage anybody else to embrace all that Brentwood has to offer if the opportunity were given to them."

The most significant way in which Brentwood School helped me with my personal development was by allowing me to be part of a truly supporting student and staff community. I am currently a final year student on a dual degree programme in France and Hong Kong, and whilst the academic facet of studying at Brentwood can be discussed at length, I really feel that the personal pastoral support I received was much more important in giving me the confidence to pursue my path."

Meet Sammy!

Sammy has a fully-funded place at Brentwood School, which has been mutually beneficial in many ways.

It's truly heart-warming to hear Sammy's experience from her own perspective about the impact the gift of a bursary has had on her.

"At Brentwood, I developed my confidence and became a part of a community like no other.

I studied the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, learning History, Global Politics, English Literature, Mathematics, French and Astronomy. I never imagined that in my lessons I would be able to learn about such a diverse range of eras in History or analyse events from an international perspective in Global Politics.

Brentwood prepared me for my life after school with exceptional opportunities that helped to develop my skill set and knowledge.

Thanks to the support I received from my teachers, I am currently reading History and International Relations at King’s College London. I am also a Trustee at the British Youth Council and a governor at a local primary school, and when I graduate I hope to embark on a career in law.

Having received the first Foundation-funded bursary, I have always held great gratitude for the OB Association and all of its donors for helping provide such an invaluable opportunity for my education and personal development.

I will cherish my memories with my friends and teachers at Brentwood for life."
