We recently sent out a survey inviting Old Brentwoods to suggest a name for the school museum, with one suggestion proving to be the most popular by far. With a 47-year tenure at the School, a passion for history, and having worked on the forthcoming School history book, it was no surprise that Old Brentwoods voted in favour of naming the museum after former 'one of a kind' teacher Mike Willis. Mike taught at Brentwood School for nearly half a century under five Headmasters, heading up the Politics department and Sir Antony Browne Society (SABS). He was universally loved and respected by pupils and colleagues
So we are delighted to confirm that the museum will be known in his honour as 'The Willis Museum' .
The museum is situated in the old stable blocks by Newnum House. The same area previously housed our archives, but had become something of a repository for all unwanted pieces of school paraphernalia! After much work from the School Maintenance Team and the School Archivist (Stacey Harmer), we now have a wonderful facility that delves into the history of Brentwood with pictures and artefacts bringing to life the various chapters and facets of our School's past.
From June 2024 we will have some regular opening times made available and advertised on the Association website where anyone will be welcome to book free tickets to visit. Very much open to all, we are only asking people to sign up so we can ensure we manage numbers appropraitely.
We look forward to seeing you back at the school soon and enjoying a walk down memory lane in The Willis Museum.
