On 18th April 2022, Dean Ahmad (OB 2011-2015) will be traveling to Lebanon to work on the ground in the refugee camps across the Lebanese/Syrian border.
Through ‘Salam Charity UK’, Dean is taking part in their upcoming Ramadan Aid Deployment programme which will see him hand-delivering donations to the most needy and vulnerable Syrian and Palestinian refugees and families.
Over 1.5 million Syrian and Palestinian refugees live in Lebanon – a country of only 6 million in total. Lebanon is experiencing the worst economic crisis in its history, with the skyrocketing food prices hitting the most vulnerable the hardest.
Lebanon hosts one of the largest populations of Syrian and Palestinian refugees – all crammed into overcrowded and often dangerous camps with no heating, electricity, or running water. Winter is still very much upon the country, threatening to bring with it extreme weather conditions and plunging refugee families into even greater hardship. Many rely solely on international aid to survive.
Dean is aiming to raise an ambitious £10,000, with every single penny going to those in need. He’s already over half way there, having raised over £5,000 at the time of writing this article, but would love the support and generosity of any OB’s who would like (and are able) to help.
You can visit Dean’s JustGiving page by clicking on the following web address - www.justgiving.com/fundraising/deanahmad - and below is an indication of what your donation could equate to.
How your donations help:
Family Sponsorship - £1800 per year
Orphan Sponsorship - £540 per year
Tuk Tuk - £2800 | Provides a job for someone who can earn income
Food Pack - £60 | Feeds a family for 1 month
Packs of Bread - £200 | Provides 700 packs of bread
Hot Food - £13 | Feeds a family a hot nutritious meal
Sheep Sacrifice - £180 | Provides meat for families
Dean will be documenting his journey inside the refugee camps on his instagram - @DeanAhmad_ to raise awareness of the harsh realities refugees are facing and to show where your donations are going.
We will be sure to catch up with him upon his return too!
