Thomas Moulson (OB 1946 - 1948)

Thomas (Tom) Moulson passed away on the 31st August 2026, he joined the school in 1946 after the family moved to Gidea Park from Manchester.

From a young age, Tom was fascinated by aircraft and he duly carried out his National Service in the RAF, before joining 601 (Auxiliary) squadron in 1950 where he was able to fly at weekends. The flying pay, and the substantial commission he earned from selling a telephone system to a business in Davies Street, Mayfair, was enough to fund his study at the LSE, where he gained his degree.

He loved flying, especially jets, including Vampires, one of which he crashed when it flamed out in bad weather. Along with the other auxiliary squadrons, 601 was disbanded in 1957 (though it has since reformed). He made great and lasting friendships during his time with the squadron and, in 1964, wrote a book (The Flying Sword) on its history which he expanded and updated in 2014 (The Millionaires Squadron). The more recent book is practically the squadron’s official history and is eminently readable.

After leaving 601, he took a job in sales and marketing with Nestle, moving to the US where he subsequently joined Ford Motor Company, working in the US, Belgium and at Warley. On retirement he became a partner in a marketing research consulting company before retiring to Newport Beach, California.
