The Brentwood Bursary Classic has become an annual highlight in the Foundation / Association calendar, and it was great to see so many returning from previous editions.
Once again Heron Country Club laid on the weather alongside the excellent Heron & Hawk golf courses, and their now legendary BBQ. We cannot thank Russell Bartlett and his team enough for such hospitality and offering it as an incredibly generous gift to the Foundation. It means your tickets, mulligan purchases, auction wins, and any pledges, all go directly to the Foundation and funding transformational bursaries.
The individual scores were the usual mixed bag, but all teams ended with respectable totals - Six teams scored between 83 and 88, with a solid mid 70s the worst of the day (not the defence we expected from the 2025 champions!). However the clear winners with an impressive 91 points were the Team Perry - Alan Perry, Dean Shepherd, Nick Bellamy and John Jarman shooting the lights out and taking the Classic Trophy! It was no surprise that the individual winner came from that stable, and Dean Shepherd collected the individual prize with a big 40 points.
At time of writing it still stands that Rob Key AGAIN won the long drive with a 325 yard monster down the18th (we await results from him being randomly selected for performance enhancement screening!). Nearest the pin was on all par 3's; Michael Stewart peppered the 4th, the School's own Neil Turnbull nearly held it on the 15th, and finally the classy golfing of Seb Wagner took the Hours on both the 8th and 17th.
Thank you for those who supported the day, and if you are reading this wishing you had made it, please email foundation@brentwood.essex.sch.uk and we will ensure you get a personal notice of future golfing opportunities.
